Fernee Forest Club Sessions
AT Bevendean Community Garden & Woods
YOUNG EXPLORERS
Our popular session for little ones
So what happens at the Young Explorers sessions?
Last session : We did yoga tree poses under the trees. We made and followed trails and tracks. We noticed branches brought down by the storms and leaf skeletons scattered around. We found a fox skeleton, investigated, asked questions about life, death, how a fox knows it's a fox and also evolution and cells and spines! We made lemon balm tea using a kelly kettle and drew foxes with pastels, did the oke cokey to finish and planned popcorn for next time!
These sessions are very relaxed. We bring some nature based activities, some loose parts like tarps and ropes and a bit of a plan but the session evolves to respond to the space, the weather, the children's interests and needs that day. This is what's great about forest school. We explore, that's for certain. The children learn, while having fun; at their own pace. Their confidence grows. The adults relax and feel the benefits of being in the woods, surrounded by greenery, having quality time.. :)
When:
Mondays (Term time) 10am - 12 noon, includes a healthy snack. You are welcome to picnic in the community garden/woods afterwards.

About:
Autumn/Winter description
For children aged 6 to 12 years old. A weekly session, where children have the opportunity to play in the woods, be adventurous, develop new skills, explore and learn about nature through the seasons. We relax together in the great outdoors, enjoy the fire as the light changes and embrace a sense of community.
Autumn is such a bountiful time in nature! Its a great time to learn about foraging and experiment with natural crafts, we enjoy blackberries, hawthorns, rosehips, elderberries and share stories about the trees, their benefits and the folklore that surrounds them. We notice the changing colours and the changing light levels and learn about how our wildlife responds to these changes too. We enjoy the rain as well as the sun! We get muddy, build dens and shelters and dams. As the days grow shorter, wrap up warm and join us for some torch adventures, stories, creativity. Let us keep you inspired about the fun to be had in nature during Autumn and Winter. We use the forest school approach to support child and family wellbeing; this helps us to foster strong and lifelong connections to nature, to encourage curiosity, support confidence, resourcefulness and happiness!
